Arthur Wooten Signs Sweet Movie Deal

Arthur Wooten, author of the novels On Picking Fruit and Fruit Cocktail just struck a movie deal with Black Nexxus Productions.

Based upon his unpublished novel Birthday Pie, the screenplay of the same name is slated to star actress Phylicia Rashad and will be directed by Debbie Allen. Birthday Pie which has a large ensemble cast is a "dramedy" about an eccentric Southern family.

"I've known Phylicia and her sister Deborah for over 20 years," says Wooten. "Birthday Pie was originally a play she (Phylicia) wanted to produce but I'm even more excited that she'll be starring in the movie."

Wooten will be staying on board co-producing the production.

Love, laughter, fears, tears, secrets, confessions, reunions, farewells, the all American family and a dash of comedic edge are the ingredients for Birthday Pie.
